Svenska tidningar

Search the National library's digitised newspapers, from the 17th century to the present day.

The service allows you to explore almost 400 years of Swedish press history. You need to visit the National library, or any other library that has the service, to study most of the material. However, you can freely read newspapers older than 100 years from home.

More and more newspapers

The service consists of all Swedish newspapers published from 2014 onwards. It contains the National librarys' entire collection of Swedish newspapers up to and including 1906, as well as a small selection of newspapers in between.

The service is constantly replenished with both older titles and new material for titles that are still published. It takes 4 months from the time a newspaper is published until it is available in the service.

Much is only available on microfilm

The National library started digitising its newspapers in 2014, but we have been microfilming newspapers since the 1940s. Many of our newspapers are therefore only available on microfilm in the library's premises. You can read more about our premises here.

We collect everything

The National library's mission is to collect, describe, preserve and make available all material that has been produced and publicly disseminated in Sweden, without valuing the content. Users should be aware that the library's collections contain older concepts, images and other historical content that today may be perceived as offensive as well as insulting or just generally outdated. Such expressions that reflect the attitudes of the authors/creators of their time may evoke strong feelings today, but are part of our history and therefore necessary for our understanding of the past.
