Apply for a library card

Everyone aged 18 and over is welcome to get a library card and explore our collections! The library card is only valid at the National Library of Sweden and you can apply from home or in the library.
About the collections

The National Library’s collection of material stretches back more than a thousand years and grows larger every day. Here you'll find both famous rarities and things that nobody else is looking for.
Search services

The collections at the National Library are extensive – so extensive that they are accessed through several different search services. It's not possible to perform a free-text search in all of them at once, so please use the filters below to find the right search service.
Accessing the collections

The procedures at the National Library are slightly different from those at other libraries. Here you can read about how to find, request and access the material you are looking for.
Exhibition loans

The National Library of Sweden may lend works from its collections to other libraries, museums, galleries or other collecting institutions for the purpose of exhibition.
Copy and photograph

Many of the items from the collections may be copied or photographed unassisted. In other cases, you may use the Library’s reproduction services.
