New publishing agreement with JMIR Publications for investment in open access

Researchers from all of the Bibsam Consortium’s participating institutions can publish in journals from JMIR Publications, without charges for authors or institutions.

People are sitting at a table and talking.

As an outcome of Swedish research funders' strategic decision to jointly cover publishing costs with fully open access publishers, a new Bibsam agreement has been concluded with JMIR Publications. The publishing agreement enables all researchers affiliated with any of the Bibsam Consortium’s participating institutions to publish in JMIR’s journals, regardless of article type, and without fees for the author or the institution.

The costs of the agreement are jointly covered by the Swedish Research Council, Formas, Forte, and Vinnova. Similar publishing agreements have been concluded with Copernicus, eLife, Frontiers, MJS Publishing, and PLOS.

About the agreement with JMIR Publications

JMIR stands for "Journal of Medical Internet Research" and is the name of the first journal that began publishing in 1999. At present, JMIR publishes 35 journals in the field of digital health, telemedicine, medical informatics, and more.

The agreement with JMIR is effective from June 1, 2024, and runs until December 31, 2025. It is estimated that researchers affiliated with the Bibsam Consortium’s participating institutions will publish about 100 articles under this agreement.
