Universities and funders share cost of publishing in new agreement
Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and research funding organisations should share the costs of scholarly publishing. This is one of the National Library of Sweden’s recommendations in aiming towards a system of immediate open access to scholarly publishing. In a new pilot agreement, it becomes reality. The Swedish Research Council, Formas, Forte and Vinnova fund 50 percent of the cost of publishing in Springer Nature’s fully open access journals.

A Memorandum of Understanding with a framework of principles on how renewed negotiations can commence has now been signed by both parties and renegotiations have started.

Springer Compact was the first Swedish agreement signed with the intent to offset publishing costs with subscription costs. The agreement is a pilot and the Bibsam steering committee commissioned an evaluation group to evaluate its effects throughout the agreement period (2016-07-01 – 2018-12-31).

Sweden commits to Open Science with new Open Access publishing deal with Frontiers
Swedish researchers can now publish their articles in Frontiers’ Open Access journals through a simplified process with discounted fees, thanks to a national agreement announced today between Frontiers and the National Library of Sweden (NLS), on behalf of the organisations participating in the Bibsam Consortium.
