The National Library monitors Swedish higher education institutions’ expenditures for scholarly literature and open access publishing in Sweden. For 2022, expenses amounted to SEK 738 million, which is an increase of 3.7% from the previous year.
In May, Sweden will organise "Open Science – from Policy to Practice", a conference highlighting different perspectives of shaping, implementing and embedding Open Science in and beyond the European Union.

The Swedish government has commissioned the National Library of Sweden (Kungliga biblioteket) to develop national guidelines for open science. This assignment includes collaborating with the Swedish Research Council, universities and university colleges as well as other concerned organisations. A report on the assignment will be submitted to the government on 15 September 2023.
