Find and request manuscripts and personal archives

Here you can find out how to locate and access the National Library's manuscripts and personal archives. You use a special form to request the materials you have found in our search services. You then access the material in the Special Reading Room.

Summer closure

Between 6 July and 9 August, it will not be possible to order materials from this collection. We also have very limited capacity to respond to enquiries about the collection during this period.

How it works

Search in our search services:

Requesting materials for the Special Reading Room

  • You submit your request via Arkens ordering function or through the form below no later than the day before your planned visit. The manuscript’s shelf mark or reference code can be found in the search services.
  • Please note that the retrieval process may be delayed and you are not guaranteed to get access to everything you want to see. In some cases, you may be referred to a digital copy, facsimile, or microfilm. Also note that parts of the material may be restricted from access for preservation reasons or according to conditions set by the donor.
  • You will be notified by email when the material is available in the Special Reading Room. Pease wait for this confirmation before coming to KB.
  • To access the material, you must be registered as a borrower at the National Library. Read more about how to apply for a library card.
