The Ericsberg Manuscript

A 70 b

The Ericsberg Manuscript is a fascinating and much talked-about manuscript acquired in 1995. It was made in southern Germany during the first half of the 15th century and is the only illuminated manuscript in Swedish ownership that contains an essentially complete version of the Revelations of Saint Birgitta in Latin.

As a particularly splendid manuscript intended for presentation on a particular occasion, it seems to have been made in haste. This is evident for instance in how the beautiful illuminations are often misplaced in relation to the text, and through the severe disorganization of the text sections.
