Requests for IFLA to clarify its position on Open Access

IFLA is called to take an explicit and clear stand on Open Access and develop a strategy for action.

The theme of this years IFLA General Conference was “Open Access to knowledge”. In a draft resolution to the General Assembly Meeting on Aug 14, IFLA is called to take an explicit and clear stand on Open Access and develop a strategy for action.

The resolution was submitted by Lars Björnshauge, Director of Libraries, Lund University, Gunnar Sahlin, National Librarian of Sweden and Bas Savenije, Director General of the National library of the Netherlands.

The resolution calls upon IFLA to sign the Berlin Declaration on Open Access and requests a White Paper on Open Access that clarifies IFLA:s position and strategy concerning Open Access. According to the Rules of Procedure the draft resolution was not tabled in the General Assembly and instead  referred to the Professional  Committee.
