You must have a library card and a valid passport or photo ID to request manuscripts. Requests can be made in the Special Reading Room or via phone or e-mail. You can also borrow and request manuscripts from other libraries and archives. The reference library för manuscripts is located in the Special Reading Room.

Catalogs of the manuscript collection are in the Special Reading Room. The card catalog consists of a nominal catalog, which you can search by name and heading, and a closed letters catalog, organized by letter writers and letter recipients. You can search for most letter writers and letter recipients in the Letter Database. Living persons are not included. For more information about our index, click "Covered Materials". There is also a real catalog in the Special Reading Room, which is kept in blue binders arranged by subject.

We enter our indices of personal archives and accessions in Ediffah. All manuscript materials acquired by the National Library are assigned an accession number corresponding to the year of acquisition and a serial number. The accessions may contain anything from large personal archives to isolated manuscripts.

Ediffah is based on NAD records (National Archive Database). It is gradually being replaced with complete indices. It is not yet complete, because we are still entering data in Ediffah. Contact us if you do not find what you are looking for.
