Manuscripts

You may request manuscripts in the Special Reading Room. You can also borrow and request manuscripts from other libraries and archives. You must have a library card and ID. We can print a library card for you at the Loan Desk on the ground floor. The reference library för manuscripts is in the Special Reading Room. Foreign manuscript catalogs are located on Level 5½.

Catalogs

Catalogs of the manuscript collection are in the Special Reading Room. The card catalog consists of a nominal catalog, which you can search by name and heading and a closed letters catalog, organized by letter writers and letter recipients. You can search for most letter writers and letter recipients in the Letter Database. Living persons are not included. For more information about our index, click "Covered Materials". There is also a real catalog in the Special Reading Room, which is kept in blue binders arranged by subject.

Ediffah

Manuscript Search: Ediffah >

We enter our indices of personal archives and accessions in Ediffah. All manuscript materials acquired by the National Library are assigned an accession number corresponding to the year of acquisition and a serial number. The accessions may contain anything from large personal archives to isolated manuscripts.

Ediffah is based on NAD records (National Archive Database). It is gradually being replaced with complete indices. It is not yet complete, because we are still entering data in Ediffah. Contact us in the Manuscripts, Maps, and Pictures Section if you do not find what you are looking for.
