Archives, collections of letters, and other manuscripts may be transferred to the National Library as a donation or as a deposit, in which case the giver prepares a donation or deposit document. The document governs how available the donation should be and other agreements.

When material is donated, ownership rights are assigned entirely to the National Library, which organizes, describes, and stores the material, and makes it available to the public for reading in the Special Reading Room.

Ownership rights to archives are retained by the depositors, but the deposit document must include a plan for how the deposit will be converted to a donation. Deposits are not organized. Inquiries about donations and deposits should be directed to Karolin Engdahl (, phone: +46 (0) 10 709 32 19.
