More and more e-books are being lent out

4.2 million e-book downloads and 3.2 million loans of printed books.

Using an e-book is now more common than borrowing a printed book. Last year, the number of e-book downloads was one million more than the number of new loans of printed books. The 2007 forecast that pointed towards a change of trend in the number of loans and the use of e-books has thus been fulfilled!
More money is being allocated to e-resources
It is the research libraries’ increased strategic investments in purchasing and managing electronic resources over the past few years that are now resulting in the significant increase in the use of all types of electronic resources at higher education institutions. Of the total 2008 acquisition grant, the libraries used 72% for the purchase of databases, electronic periodicals and e-books.
